We are looked after in Nursery by Mrs Emma Stone, Mrs Steph Clews and Mrs Jacky Hawkins-Farrow.
A very big welcome to all our returning children and all our new children in Emerald Class!
Our class is full of lots of exciting opportunities to try different activities and experiences so that we can learn how to play alongside our friends, find our confidence, learn how to enjoy different physical activities and how to listen and communicate.
Things might be a little bit different in the 'Big Wide World' this year but we will always be a welcoming family at our Nursery and make your child's journey to 'big school' the best it can be!
Book of the week, numbers and phonics
W/C 8th February
We will certainly be wrapping up warm this week, even my sheep are shivering! Our book of the week this week is 'Spinderella'. The book deals with friendships, numbers celebrating our talents. We will make some paper plate spiders and look at the football game they play in the book. As well this we are going to make a Gruffalo for our display and something for Valentine's day.
Numbers - we will be recapping '7’ from last week (this is now unlocked on TenTown). Once we are confident we will move onto ‘8’ The children will explore recognising the number, writing the number, how can we make 8 using the numbers we already know and matching quantity to the number. Please use Numberblocks (link on useful websites tab) and your TenTown account to help.
Phonics - again we will recap 'm' from last week and then moving onto 'd'. There is a link below to the phonics song but please use Alphablocks (link on useful websites tab) to help. Children can also try making letter shape out of playdough or tracing it in flour. As we now know a few sounds we will also be trying to blend the sounds together to make some 'cvc words such as tap, pat, sat, nap etc.
Planners - please bring these in on your child's first day of the week and then they will be sent home with our comments on their last day of the week.
Parent Pay - don't forget to make your payments by 14th of the month for the previous months' charges and also to renew your 30 hour code with HMRC every 3 months if applicable.
Please make sure your child has a water bottle in Nursery every day and they will be offered milk and fruit in the morning.
P.E. Pumps will be needed for indoor P.E so please send in a labelled pair which we can keep in the classroom.
Please contact me by email on email@example.com if you have any queries.
Topic for Autumn 2 half-term - Traditional Tales and Christmas
We will be looking at 4 different traditional tales up until the end of November and then preparing for Christmas. Alongside all this will be lots of practice for our Nativity play which we plan to record on the last week of term. Traditional tales open up a lot of ideas for activities so look out on this page for updates about what we have been doing.
W/C 2/11/2020 - We have been exploring the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' this week. We have played with magic beans practicing making patterns and using gloop and bricks to make a beanstalk.
W/C 9/11/2020 - The Gingerbread Man. We have had a brilliant week doing gingerbread men paintings, acting the story with stick puppets and then decorating yummy gingerbread to eat. We also managed to fit in some fabulous artwork for Remembrance day, Diwali lamps which we will be ready to paint next week and loads of Pudsey fun!
W/C 16/11/2020 - The Three Little Pigs. We have had another super week and done lots of investigation about different types of houses and the difference between hard and soft materials. We have also taken part in the Parish Council baubles for Christmas and delivered them today to the village hall.
W/C 23/11/2020 - Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We got a bit distracted by the frost at the beginning of the week so we had a go at melting ice. We did manage to try making some porridge though and it was great fun.
W/C 30/11/2020 - Christmas arrives at Nursery........
Letters and Sounds
As well as all the ideas below we are now introducing letter sounds starting this week with 'S'. There is a link below to the song we use to learn the sound and it is useful to spot things around the home with your child that start with 'S'.
We have now introduced the letter 'a' and again the link to the song is below. It is the second letter sound on the video.
The children have been picking up their letter sounds so well that we have now introduced 't' as well this week. You can find the song on one of the videos below. Keep practicing those initial sounds!
How to get involved
Parents and carers are a really important part of our Nursery life and we encourage everyone to get involved where they can.
Tapestry - this is the on-line Learning Journey we use for recording observations of the children but it is also a tool for parents to use at home. You will have access to Tapestry and be able to upload your own pictures from home so that we can hear all about their experiences outside of Nursery.
