Welcome back!

I hope you've all had a lovely half term with your families. Have you been doing lots of exciting things? I hope so! The beautiful weather certainly helps! We've been very busy over half term. We have baked some cakes and jam crumble shortbreads, we have been on walks to collect sticks, we've had the paddling pool out, built an outdoor sandpit and I even managed to build a simple water wall for my little boy to play with. He loves tipping water everywhere and getting soaked!

Make sure you check out the head boy and head girl page to see the results of St John's Got Talent! There were some fantastic entries and a huge well done for everyone who took part! It is excellent to see you getting involved from home :)

Also, on the 'just for fun' page, I have shared all of the 'Joy of Moving' home festival photographs I was sent. Make sure you check them out. Thank you so much if you took part and to your families for helping make it happen.

I hope you have a fantastic week.

Keep smiling

Great British Gardens

This term we are learning about all things gardens! We will be growing our own sunflowers, learning about plants and their structure, comparing seeds, carrying out fieldwork in our school grounds, produce art inspired by a famous artist and learn the names of common plants and trees.

Here are some photographs of us exploring during our WOW morning.

Poles Apart

This term our topic is all about the Arctic and Antarctica. We will be learning about the weather and climate, animals that live there and we will even carry out scientific experiments using ice. So far, it has been lots of fun!

Spellings - The spelling logs should be in school every day as we can't always promise the test will take place on set days. We will record how your child has scored in their log, which will be sent home daily. Once your child has scored full marks, two weeks running, they will automatically be moved onto the next set of words. If after three attempts your child has still made mistakes, they will be moved on to the next set of words automatically.

Reading books - Reading books will be changed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Class 1's P.E. days are Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure that labelled P.E. kit is in school at all times.

As children are not issued with the clear plastic book bags in Year 1 they will need to bring their diary and reading book in a red book bag.

We are looking forward to helping your child to learn and have fun! smiley

This year our topics are:

- Houses and Homes

- Victorian Christmas

- Poles Apart

- Great British Gardens

- Artists and Animals

- Transport and travel
