It's World Book Day! Although things are a little different for World Book Day this year, we can still have lots of fun!
World Book Day is a brilliant opportunity for us to celebrate reading! So, today will be a little bit different...
For our work today, we will begin by learning about World Book Day and why we have it, before sharing our favourite stories with each other! We will then take part in a virtual author event, which is really exciting! After that, I have included lots of activities and tasks for you to complete from artwork and writing to live lessons and audiobooks. You don't need to complete all of the work! Just select the activities that you would most like to complete! There is so much to choose from!
There are also some live lessons and special events running today. I have included the times, information and links for each event below. Again, just select which you would like to watch! And, most importantly, have fun!
We also have lots planned to celebrate World Book Day as a school!
Follow this link to find out more...
If you have dressed up as your favourite book character today, send me a photograph and I will add it to our class page!

So let's begin...
We are going to start by finding out a little bit more about World Book Day and why we celebrate it. Just watch this video...
Our Favourite Books!
We are going to be thinking about our favourite books and why we like them!
Here is one of mine...
Activity
I would like you to share your favourite story with the rest of the class and explain why you like it. There are a few ways that you can do this...
Let's take part in an author event!
Although we can't have an author event in school, we can still take part in one virtually! So, I would like you all to watch this video of author Tom Fletcher and listen to what inspired him to create books! Listen carefully to Tom's challenge, which we will be completing after the video...
Activity
Create a character for your own 'What's in the Book' story! Draw and label your character then write about the adventures it will have!
Here are some more fun activities
for you to complete!
Remember, you don't need to complete all of them... just pick and choose what you would most like to do! I hope that you have lots of fun!
Be a 'Share a Story' Reading Star!
There are lots of exciting ways that you can share stories! Have a go at this 'Share a Story' reading challenge and tick off each star when you complete a reading task. You can do this by following the link, below, or by completing the activity sheet! Have fun! And don't forget to download your certificate at the end!
Listen to an Audiobook
Listen to an Audiobook by following this link and selecting one of the stories! There are lots to choose from.
Book Scavenger Hunt
I'm sure that you have lots of books at home, which is perfect for this activity! Find each of the items from the activity sheet, below, in books that you have at home. Use the table to record the book you found the item in, the page number and whether it was a picture or a word, or both! How many can you find?
'Card on Your Head' Game!
This is a really fun game to play! You will need at least one other person to play the game with- this could be someone in your household, or you could even do it over Zoom with a member of your family or a friend!
Below, you will find some cards with characters from books on them. Cut out each character card and stick it to a headband to play the game. You, and whoever is playing the game with you, will then need to ask questions to try and discover which character you are!
Why not make your own character cards? Include lots of characters from all of your favourite books! Post-Its are great for doing this!
Make a bookmark!
Have fun creating your very own bookmark! You can use any materials you have at home to do this... paint, paper, card, lollipop sticks. Why not include your favourite character on your bookmark? Or your name? Here are some ideas...
We're Going on a Bear Hunt
We all love the story 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'! Why not go on a real bear hunt? Just watch this video...
