smiley

Get in touch, Zoom or email an older member of your family and ask them what toys they played with when they were children. It would be great if they could send you a picture.

Phonics

We are continuing with Phase 4 of our Phonics learning.

If your child can recognise most of all the Phase 2/3 sounds and read the Phase 2 and 3 tricky words then they are ready for Phase 4.

If you feel that your child still needs more practise with Phase2/3 please re-visit the previous weeks learning and try some other games on the suggested websites on our front class page.

Alphabet Song | ABC Song | Phonics Song

This is the original Alphabet ABC Song by Have Fun Teaching. Free Teaching Resources: https://www.havefunteaching.com/unlimited.

You say this sentence and your child writes it down. Look out for tricky words and sound out each word.

The car  is  in  the  street.

Challenge 1 - if your child can write this sentence easily add in some describing words e.g. The old car.....

Challenge 2 - Can they write another sentence about the car/street?

Maths

I can recognise English coins.

Money Song for Children UK

Talk with your child about the colours and size of the coins - bronze, silver, gold. Look at the shapes and talk about the 2p coin being bigger than the 5p coin but the 5p coin is worth more.

They greatest way for children to learn about money is to have a look in your purse/wallet. I realise that we are now more than ever using contactless ways to pay for shopping and this sort of activity may become a thing of the past for future generations!

Challenge 1 - Have a go at drawing the above slide show up to 20p.

Challenge 2 - Can you draw the penny equivalent up to £1? How long do you think it will take to draw 100 pennies?

English

I can use text and pictures to answer questions.

Read the story through once. Check your child's understanding of the text by asking these questions -

  • Why do think Woody is Andy's favourite toy? (look what Andy is wearing on his head pg 3)
  • What does wearing a sheriff badge mean?
  • Where would you find a space ranger?
  • What toy animals can you see on pg. 6?
  • Why do you think Woody does not like Buzz Lightyear when they first meet?
  • Why do you think they are best friends at the end of the story?

Toy Story Part 1

Enjoy this little clip showing Andy playing with his toys. Great theme song about friendship as well.

Music/History

I am beginning to recognise classical music.

I can create movement to music.

We are going to listen to Mozart's Toy symphony so this is a good moment to talk about some history by looking at the life of the musical composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Please talk about how history looks at things that happened in the past a long time ago! Talk about how different it used to be in the way we dressed, hairstyles, transport, homes and music - all of which can be seen in this video.

The quick story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Take a peek at this giant of classical music! Get an idea of his early life, hear a handful of his best-known tunes and remember why he's considered one of the all-time greats.

Mozart "Toy Symphony": I. Allegro | Classical Music for Babies

The Toy Symphony (full title: Cassation in G major for toys, 2 oboes, 2 horns, strings and continuo) is a musical work with parts for toy instruments.Enjoy this lovely piece of classical music.

When your child has watched the video encourage them to create movements to the music using their own toys. Film their routine so they can watch and comment on their performance. Get some siblings to join in or join in yourself!

PE

I understand the importance for good health of physical exercise.
