Some children may have questions and be expressing a deep concern about Coronavirus. This book for primary school age children will help to explain the coronavirus and the measures taken to control it. It answers lots of questions in a child-friendly way, and aims to both inform and reassure. Please read through it with your child. Please also look at some advice on our St Johns News Bites this week about helping ourselves and young children to be mindful of well-being at this very stange time.

I can find out facts about worms using different sources.

I can follow instructions to make a wormery.

I can observe and talk about what happens over time.

Read this poster to find out all about worms. In your best handwriting copy one of the facts and draw a picture.

Challenge - How many hearts does a worm have?

How to make your own wormery!

This great video shows you how to make your own wormery using a widemouthed clear container - the bigger the better, soil, sand, water, paper towel and rubber band (or jar lid with pierced holes), leaves and some worms that you can find in your garden. Ask an adult to help you make this intersesting project and then observe what happens after a couple of days. When you have made it remember to put it in a cool dark place, so the worms feel they are still underground.
Please post photos on Tapestry to let me know how you did!!

I am beginning to find out about the NHS.

I can talk about how nurses can help us.

I can write a simple sentence.

International Nurses Day is celebrated on May 12 all around the world. This day highlights the importance of nurses in the healthcare sector. International nurses day marks the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. Several activities are conducted worldwide to thank the nurses for what they do. According to the World Health Organisation, historically, as well as today, nurses are at the forefront of fighting epidemics and pandemics by providing high quality and respectful treatment and care.

After you have looked at the powerpoint together talk about the information that you read and then draw a picture of a nurse (use the powerpoint or find a picture on the internet of a nurse to help you).

Challenge - Can you write a sentence about what they do?
